This is the ultimate optical system for HID, HPS, MH, Metal Halide or CFL grow lights Now you can get the most light out of your grow light bulbs. It features a patented high efficiency prismatic refractor that efficiently bends light down. Most of the light comes out of refactor in a 50 degree cone. Refractors like this have long made reflectors obsolete.

Here's the secret. Conventional reflectors will trap light in internal reflections. If this auctions item had an aluminum reflector instead, it would trap 21% to 26% of a typical HID bulbs light. On the otherhand, this primatic refractor is about 94.5% optically efficient. (Only 5.5% of the light is lost going through the lens or otherwise dissipated.). This is why if you look in commercial buildings - big box retail stores or warehouses - this is the preferred optical system for metal halide fixtures.

This refractor works even better when you are using jumbo sized CFLs. The problem with larger CFL (85w+) is that they are so big that they get in the way of light rays trying to escape the reflector.

This refractor actually produces much higher light levels directly underneath the fixture than a reflector. But it also gives very even light. A regular aluminum reflector generally makes a hot spot right underneath the bulb and then light levels severely drop off from there. This optical assembly is scientifically engineering to throw light slightly to the side. So within the 50 degree cone, you get completely uniform light. Light comes out of the refractor at multiple angles too. So the side foliage gets illuminated too.

Because the prism is clear, it won't block precious sunlight in greenhouses or patios.

It's just a great grow light optical system that is incredibly economical.

This fixture comes with the 16 inch prism with mounting collar and the shown hanger kit. The kit is set up with a mogul base socket. (It can be made medium base by special order.) It has a 3 prong cord that is ready to plug right in. But you could also hook it up to a HPS or metal halide ballast.
